How to choose a music instrument teacher?

Delivery, Passion, and Dedication to the student in front of you.

First and foremost, you need to find a teacher who is absolutely focused on helping you solve the problems you encounter during your learning journey on the instrument.

A good teacher is usually constantly putting themselves in the student's position, trying to understand their difficulties and anxieties to find the best path for them to achieve the best possible results.

Punctuality and Regular Attendance

A teacher should be punctual and consistent in the scheduled lessons with the student. This demonstrates respect and commitment to the mission of teaching music.

Teaching Methodology and Rigor

All teaching methods and approaches are fallible. None are perfect. Success in learning the instrument is a joint effort between the student and the teacher. If you don't practice at home, you won't see results.
Mas o seu professor deve ter uma linha vertical de ensino que é adaptável 30% aos seus gostos e objectivos musicais. Lembre-se que o mais importante é que tem de ter prazer quando praticar em casa.

"I only know that I know nothing."

A good teacher recognizes that what they don't know is much more than what they know. And for that reason, they are fully aware that there may be more effective approaches from other teachers.
This radical openness of mind ensures that their method does not stagnate over time and is constantly evolving and improving.

Testimonials

What the students say:

As a Portuguese guitar student, I appreciated Professor Ricardo Mata's method, both in the approach to the guitar and in the explanation of the pieces that were taught to me. Without the master's help and patience, I would never even have been able to play this instrument, due to a permanent injury to my right arm. My thanks to him.

António Ribeiro

As a retiree and a recent student of Professor Ricardo Mata, I feel, through his classes, both musical and artistic fulfillment. The lessons are given by means of an accessible teaching allowing a beginner and passionate student of Portuguese guitar to learn without difficulty the sound of this magnificent and bewitching music of Fado.

Marie Thérèse Maurel

I have been a student since October 2015. (...) I feel that, since the first class, I have learned and evolved a lot. Prof. Ricardo has an extraordinary vocation for teaching music, he manages to adapt his teaching method to each individual case, depending on our abilities, limitations, personality and musical tastes. (...) The coolest part of the class is when he plays along with us!
